Percy Gives Bone A Hickey
The back story: my five month old Labrador puppy, T-Bone, was wrestling with another Lab pup in the yard of some friends we were visiting, when a tiny kitten, an orange Tabby , appeared on the porch steps to sit and watch. As soon as the dogs noticed the kitten, they gave chase. The kitten ducked under the house. The dogs resumed wrestling. The kitten came back, taking his position on the steps. The dogs again chased it back under the house. The pattern was repeated several times before my friends shooed the kitten away because they didn’t want another stray. Later that evening I fed T-Bone on the porch while we ate dinner inside. After a while I noticed through the sliding doors that T-Bone was not eating but lying there calmly allowing the kitten to devour his kibble. My friend dashed out and threw water on the kitten to chase it away. T-Bone snatched the kitten up by the back of its neck, saving it from a dousing. All that evening he carried the kitten around; they totally bonded; Bone got himself a pet. Of course, I brought the cat home. Percy ‘s fur was either wet or spiked with dried Lab drool. In time, however, he grew up and fought fiercely against the indignity of being carried around in a dog’s maw, though Bone never gave up trying. Here after ferocious combat over that issue, then cuddling together in sleep, Percy gives Bone a hickey.
